CHALLIS PRIMARY SCHOOL
40 Braemore Street,
Armadale,Western Australia 6112
SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
Challis PS is a level 5 primary school with 360 children in years 3-7.
The buildings are of 1970s cluster style, supplemented with a number of
transportable rooms. The school is well equipped for a school of its size
and age.
Whilst the majority of students come from an English/European background we have over 10% of our students from an Aboriginal background. Many families have been with the school for years and in some cases the parents also attended Challis PS.
We share our site with Challis Early Childhood Education Centre and SPER Centre, both of which operate as separate entities.
SPECIAL PROGRAMMES
Together with the usual classroom programmes, a number of specialist
programmes are offered. These include:
Art Programme
Music Programme
Phys Ed Program
Students at Educational Risk Programme
Getting It Right Literacy and Numeracy Programme
Getting it Right Science
Talented and Gifted Programme
Library Research Programme
Also being implemented across the school are our Values and Inclusion Programmes of Tribes, Paths and Learning for Life.
STAFF
Challis PS is fortunate to have a very stable, experienced teaching and
non-teaching staff, with many staff having been here for over five years.
We also have a good proportion of male staff, something other schools do not
have. Not only are the staff experienced but their enthusiasm and professionalism
is of the highest standard. In the current climate of great change in
education our staff work hard to keep abreast of the changes whilst maintaining
a very high standard of learning programmes and care for the children.
